why has my apple mail stopped receiving mail
iMac, OS X Mountain Lion
If you just upgraded to Mountain Lion and THEN you stopped receiving email, as also happened to me, it was because the upgrade in this case caused the Mail app to lose all of its Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) settings in Mail>Preferences>Accounts. You will need to contact your ISP to obtain the correct settings for these two servers and re-enter them in the above location. I know, Apple slipped a bit on this one.
