Problem reading files from Win 7 OS (smb)

Hello,

My current system is a Mac Pro Early 2008 running Mac OS X 10.8.1. The last couple of days I'm experiencing the following issue:

Im trying to copy (large files from my Mac to my PC) and in the middle of the process I get the following message on PC

There is a problem accessing \\192.168.195.195\Data500. Make sure you are connected to the network and try again.

after that I have no access to Mac until I stop and start again Sharing under System Preferences.

I paste my Consol log:

Sounds like the Mac is dropping the LAN/Ethernet connection or your router/switch is becoming overloaded with the amount of Data that is being sent through it.

I had this problem with a Linksys WRT 54G. Once I got to around 900MB of info the router/switch would just hang.

Whether I was pushing or pulling the data from Mac to PC, PC to Mac, PC to PC.

Hello Jimaras,

are your Mac Pro, the Windows PC and your G5 Mac wired or wireless connected?

And, secondly, you say you didn't had the problem under Lion but has the amount of data you want to copy increased since you installed ML?

I've seen, and have had, the same problem and the cause turned out to be what "shootist" described.

In my case, the problem was on the PC side. It turned out that the network card's buffer overran after several Gb's were copied. I could solve the problem by installing an Ethernet Card in my Windows PC and use that one.

Kind regards,

emeu1

Hello emeu1,

yes all are connected on the gigabit switch. I did not had the problem with Lion (10.7.x).

After a clean installation of Mountain Lion (10.8) the problem started.

The PC has no problem reading large files (about 30GB) from G5 (smb)

The G5 has no problem reading large files (about 30GB) from Mac Pro (afp & smb)

When PC reading large files (about 30GB) from Mac Pro the problem show up

User uploaded file

and I tried from Win XP and the same message appeared its like windows trying to access something and mac denies

drives me crazy

I also boot the Mac Pro from an external disk Mac OS X 10.6.5 and I had no problem reading from PC

I think its related to sandbox the new security feature OS X 10.8 has but not sure.

I personaly get the error only when copying from Win7 to OS X Moutain Lion. No problem before the upgrade to ML. I tried disabling firewalls, connected with network cable, disabled anti-virus etc... still have the issue. However, it's intermitent. I may copy a 1GB file once... and won't be able to do it again one minute later. Strange...
