Is it possible to Airplay 1080p resolution from Keynote?

I'd like to be able to give keynote presentations with my iPad g3 via airplay to a 1080p flat screen TV. It appears that, while the gen 3 Apple TV supports 1080p video, it only supports 720p from programs like Keynote. Is this correct? If so, what's the best way to get from Keynote to a flat screen and retain full 1080p resolution? Is it best to use the HDMI adapter directly into the TV's HDMI input?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1), iPad g3
