Q: iPod crashing iTunes

My "library" is located on an old desktop pc. Synching iPod was no problem for a year or two but now it crashes iTunes shortly after the synch process has reached stage 3. The same iPod can be connected by same USB cable to another laptop without this problem. Likewise I can connect my iPad to the old desktop and it does not crash iTunes. I have un-installed and re-installed iTunes on my old desk top pc but the iPod still crashes iTunes - not straight away but at the end of the synch process. Any suggestions please.
