Adobe Illustrator CS6

Hello. I'm currently using an iMac G5 (iSight) computer and have an issue. Recently I purchased Photoshop CS5 software, which didn't work on my model computer. However, I upgraded to Snow Leopard, and purchased extra RAM, and met the requirements to install Photoshop. I am now planning on buying Adobe Illustator CS6. I know that have have to buy more RAM, and am prepared to do so. However, I downloaded the free trial of Illustator CS6, and a message came up that said it could not be installed on my computer. Did that message only come up because I don't have sufficient RAM, or will Illustator CS6 not work on my current model iMac? Thank you.

No G5 iMac can run Snow Leopard (OS 10.6); the max possible OS is 10.5.8. Are you sure of your model? If you are not sure, Please do "About this Mac" from your aApple menu and post what it says for processor type.

Here is what the Adobe web site says for CS^:

  • Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support.
  • Mac OS X v10.6.8 or v10.7. Adobe Creative Suite 5, 5.5, and CS6 applications support Mac OS X Mountain Lion (v10.8) when installed on Intel based systems. Refer to the CS6 FAQ for more information about Mac OS X Mountain Lion support.**
  • 4GB of RAM (8GB recommended)

That means even some newer Intel iMacs cannot run CS6, like the Core Duo units that are not 64-bit capable.

We need to sort your model to go any fartehr.

"About this Mac" says "Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core Duo". I believe that the machine is a G5 (iSight) This is a picture of my model. (If it helps). I have succesfully upgraded to Snow Leopard and am currently running OS 10.6.8. (After installing the extra RAM). Also, I am currently using Photoshop CS5. Thank you very much for you knowlege and time. User uploaded file

Thank you for the additional information. The reason you could not install CS6 is this part of its system requirements:

---Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support.

That would be a minimum Core 2 Duo. Your iMac has a Core Duo processor.

An iMac G5 is a totally different model from yours. It uses the older PowerPC processor.

You found the forum for Mac hardware made before 1998. Not your fault--the forum labeling is poor. I'll ask the Hosts to move your post to the section for Intel iMacs so you do not have to repost. It appears that CS5 will be the highest version of that pacjagkage you can install, as is Mac OS 10.6.8.

I still run CS2 on a 2004-vintage Powermac G4. Works fine!
