'ghost' usb drive

Hi,

Having a strange problem on my Mac. I once had a usb stick drive which I accidentally removed without 'ejecting' it first. Since then I keep getting the following error message when no device is present:

Disk Insertion
The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer
Initalize/Ignore/Eject

Unfortunately the error message appears at random times during the day.
I just click Ignore and the message disappears.

All very strange.

Does anyone know a way I can clear whatever setting is causing this? Thanks.

Sometimes, mounted disks/images persist in DU, that's why I suggested you try it. Do you still have the disk? If so, reinsert it and then eject it properly. If not, try another one. It might be that the USB controller database (or wherever that information's stored) indicates that the disk is still plugged in, but can't get any information and clicking on eject doesn't clear that info buffer. That's about all I have to offer.

I have an IODATA HDP-U series USB drive and it won't mount. It doesn't show up in the disk utility either. I can goto About this mac, clikc more info, and then USB, and see the drive info there so I don't know what the problem is unless this machine is incorrectly identifying this drive as something else. It uses the mass storage driver which I'm sure Tiger supports. I went and bought a powered adapter today incase it wasn't enough power but that doesn't seem to fix it either. If anyone has an idea please let me know.

I don't even see a disk for it under /dev Normally these things come up on this machine as /dev/disk2s1 tho.

Thanks in advance for any help!
