why wont my ipod backup to itunes?

my ipod touch (latest IOS 5.1.1) will not back up to itunes on my laptop 😟

when i plug my ipod in, at first itunes wouldnt back it up because the apple mobile device wasnt started (now i have to do it manually everysingle time )

and when itunes does back it up, or tries to, it gets to the 2nd of 7 stages (the backing up process) and it starts and stays in the same place and will not back up

😟

ive tried moving my backups and deleting them and stuff. as said in this discussion https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3561016?start=0&tstart=0

its starts to back up then it come up with the message (itunes cannot back up this ipod) and finishes 😟

someone please help me!!!!!!

Have you looked here:

iOS: Troubleshooting backup issues in iTunes

I would next try:

Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

well ive tried that, and it worked i think, but now i cant get a secure itunes store connection when i run diagnostics? is there anyway to fix this so i can restore my ipod?

well itunes wouldnt let me restore my ipod because i couldnt get a secure network connection to the itunes store (when i ran diagnostics) so i reset my ipod touch via the settings app on it. but ive gone through the settings and done everything, now all i have to do to is connect it to itunes. and when i connect it to itunes, the ipod thingy comesup on the sidebar, but all i get is acessing itunes store and the multi colored bars moving across.

ive tried everything i can think of to get itunes store working, but nothing will work to get it working so i can reset my ipod.

also when i tried resetting via itunes, it came up with an error message (0xE8000001 or something)
