I am trying to install a new printer with the external CD rom drive on my MacBook Air. When I load the disc it is not allowing the program to run as it is stating that I have the wrong application to do so. How do I install things from the external CD Rom?

What model printer is it?
It is unlikely you need its installation CD-ROM at all.
You probably don't need the vendor's software. Try adding it in System Preferences > Print & Scan > click the "+" icon below the list.
You might need to unlock the pref screen by clicking the padlock and authenticating.

My printer is the CANON MX712.
I tried adding the printer but my MacBook wasn't able to recongnize the MX712...only the MX710, and it said that the software for this one is unavailable?
I am trying to install a new printer and I am not sure which application to use?
