How do I sync only selected contact groups to icloud? I have 5 contact groups, but only want to sync 2 groups to my iphone

You will need to move the contacts out of the iCloud group completely, if you don't want them to sync.

Thanks for you quick reply. Can you please explain how I would do that? On my Mac when I go to the address book. it shows:

(then it lists all my groups)

When I look at the pref menu > accounts
I see 2 accounts:
iCloud
On My Mac (local)
on "the on my Mac" only has 2 options sync with Yahoo and sync with Google check boxes.
I was hoping that I could have on the address book pane show:
iCloud
with the groups I do want on my iphone
Smart Groups
Last import
On My Mac
with the groups I don't want sync'd on my iphone
Then I would drag the groups in the appropriate sections
I'm not sure what you are having problems with, you can put the contacts you want to sync into the iCloud group and those you don't want to sync in the on my mac group.

What I see is:

I'm with you now I think. Change the default account to 'On My Mac' in Address Book Preferences.

OK I did what you said and changed the default to On My Mac and now I see both icloud and on my mac
I moved the U-8 2011 to the on my Mac and deleted the group from the icloud section. I haved sync'd on my phone and the U-8 2011 group doesnt show, but if I go to the "All iCloud" i still see the contacts that were in that group only....
Do I need to delete from the address book the "All iCloud" group?
Yes, if you've copies contacts from iCloud to on my mac, you will need to delete them from iCloud.
