The password is a mix of numbers and letters though so if I want to type e.g. J and then 5 how do I differentiate?

The system will automatically do so...been like this for years.
The letters are printed on the phone dial pad. Select the appropriate key.
Please help, how to use iPhone keypad to type letters when asked
Did this actually work for you? I'm pressing numbers twice, holding them down, and otherwise trying to type a letter and it's not working. Like you, I need to be able to set a password with numbers and letters and can't seem to figure this out.

Well, you don't do that. Example: You want to dial SPAM, all you do is press 7726, that's it. The system will know you mean SPAM.
I'm trying to call 855-for-truth what do I do

You transpose those letters into numbers by looking at the phone's dial pad. 855-367-87884
So I just press the 5 key twice for a j?? Amazing!
Nope...you press just once...the system will figure it out.
Fab will give it a try thanks
