I DVD versus Toast Titanium 10?

I've been having trouble with Toast Titanium telling me there 'isn't enough space' on a DVD + RDL disc (which has 8.5 GB) for my 4.7 GB project. Does anyone know how to trouble shoot that problem (i've selected DVD DL where that option is offered)?

otherwise, simplest way to burn a .mov to a DVD?

thanks!

How much free space do you have on your boot drive? It's suggested here that a minimum of 20-25 GB free space be available for iDVD and I would assume the same for Toast.

What is the playing time of your project in iDVD? iDVD only worrys about total playing time and not project size. You can get up to 120 minutes of playing time, including menus, on a single layer disk.

well, that's another category altogether - how to minimize stuff on my boot drive! (i have many applications there, though I've been trying to move some to external drives)

my project is about 1.5 hours. I find the toast is simpler, so started with that, actually.... and i figured the double layer should have plenty of room! toast doesn't seemt to recognize that it's a DL -- or maybe you are saying that it can't, because of not enough room on the boot drive . will see if i can move some things. thanks!!

iDVD.

Yes, there are programs that will put a movie on a DVD. I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, and others. None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.

With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.

IDVD is easy to get. It is available on disk as part of iLife 11.

IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

I would put a 1.5 hr project on a single layuer -R DVD disc. Much easier and cheaper. I assumed that you had iDVD since your system is listed as 10.5.6. Ziatron is absolutely correct in that there is no app as versitile and good as iDVD.

Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality final product:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
