Thanks dmason 898, that's really helpful. One last thing now: all the calendar changes that I made in my MacAir whilst I was having the updating problem, are not being refelected on my iphone / ipad. New changes made in the MacAir are going through, and calendar changes in ipad / iphone are going through to the MacAir, but there is a backlog of disconnect between the MacAir and ipad / iphone calendars. How is it possible to resolve this? Thanks!

Worked perfectly. Didn't even have to logout or restart. Many thanks.

I wrote a bash script to automate the clearing of cache and restarting of the calendar app that works great for me, maybe it can help someone else that ends up here (since this is one of the first google results for "osx calendar stuck updating"). Save it as "" in any text editor, make it executable, and run:

    if [ "$(ps -ax | grep -c /Applications/.*/Calendar)" -gt "1" ] ; then

      killall Calendar

echo "Calendar process killed, clearing cache files"

echo "Calendar not running, clearing cache files"

    if [ -a "~/Library/Preferences/" ] ; then

      rm "~/Library/Preferences/"

      echo "Removed ~/Library/Preferences/"

find "${HOME}/Library/Calendars" -iname "*Cache*" -maxdepth 1 | while read CACHE ; do

      rm "${CACHE}"

      echo "Removed ${CACHE}"

    /Applications/ &

    echo "Calendar restarted, carry on"

    I took the simple path;

First, I forced the iCal application to quit

Next, I disabled the network connection

    Next, Turned off iCloud

Rebooted, opened iCal, turned on network connection, logged back in to iCloud.

Everything in sync and working like a charm to include syncing with Outlook for MAC.

    Ferd II,

Thank you! My ical developed this problem today, I found this thread, followed your instructions and it worked! So, what should I do with the "Calendar Cache" and "" files that are now on my desktop?

You are welcome...just trash those two files on the Desktop.
