Software Update says that "Flashback malware removal tool" is recommended to be installed for all Mac users who do not have Java installed. Question: How do I know if Java is installed on my system or not? Thanks.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3), 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB
Go to Spotlight (The magnifying glass in the top right corner of the screen) and type in "Java"
Java Preferences will show up.
Click it
If it opens, its installed

Not exactly. It will always open, but if it's not installed then it will offer to install it for you.
That's not really correct. What will happen is it won't open at all and just gives you the option to download and install it. Java preferences won't open or stay open at all, period.

Sorry, I was misinformed about what did the notification. Must be the OS.

You really don't need to worry about this as long as you have installed everything recommended by Software Update, this has already run. You can double check by going to System Preferences->Software Update->Installed Updates tab and it will tell you.
Also, Flashback has not been active for several months now, so you can focus on protecting yourself from tomorrows malware.
Yup. The OS is supposed to have it pre-installed. Which is why if you don't have it, you are more than likely in trouble lol
