i needed to emulate the playpause key, i know i can do
tell application "iTunes" to playpause
but i wanted to be able to simulate playpause for the last accessed media player, like the keyboard does

It isn't clear to me what it is you're trying to do.
You already have a script that implements the play/pause mode. How is the keyboard any different?
The keyboard pauses the last media player accessed which is running, this command only tells itunes to pause. I was wondering if there is a general case for all media players.
