Time Machine will not make a new backup. A red "i" does not appear.

I am running Time Machine and I am using a Drobo as an external hard drove where the backup is stored. When I select "Back Up Now" from the Time Machine menu, the Time Machine Prefrences window first displays "Scanning XXX items...." followed by "Preparing XXX items..." After that Time Machine Prefrences displays the date of the Latest Backup, which was 6 months ago.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would like to upgrade my mac soon, but I do not want to do so with a proper backup in place.

Thanks for your suggestions, but Time Machine still isn't working.

For Spotlight, I followed this procedure: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2409?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US, which didn't seem to help. I tried to use the Repair feature of the Disk Utility, and that also didn't work.

Drobo does not use SMART, but it has its own application, called the Drobo Dashboard, that alerts a user to any hardware issues.

Do you have any more ideas?

Thanks!

Of course - That's a path!!! (I'm so dumb sometimes). I fixed the problem by navigating to the AADAC... directory and changed the permissions with the sudo chmod 744/* command. That seemed to let Time Machine do its work.

To Summarize:

The file /Volumes/Drobo_External_HD/.Spotlight-V100/Store-V1/Stores/A ADACBBC-6E0B-4608-AD3E-2D77D5A2F75D/store.db belonged to root and had zero permisions for Users and Others.

I gave Users and Others read permissions using the chmod command.

I rebooted my mad and ran Time Machine, and it worked :-)

Thanks for your help!!
