Q: OSX mail server not working after upgrade to 10.8.1

I updated my mini-mac running OSX server to 10.8.1 and now I am having problems with the mail server. It just stopped working. I checked the log files and this is what it has returned:

The mail server log is reporting the following error

From the look it seems like the database table maybe corrupted, and I would like to find out how if anyone has this problem. It seems like eveytime there is an update on ML, there is some resultant problems with one or more of the services on OSX server.

Thanks for all your assistance. I could not deal with the fustration any longer, so I made an image of my hard drive and did a clean recovery to OSX 10.8.1. Through all this fustration I have learned one valuable lession, never rush to upgrade, because the upgrade may lead to more problems than anticipated.

However, since the clean install I have lost RADIUS on my wireless, and all the documentation I have read coming from Apple is not clear. Would you so happen to know how this is set up?

Mail servers need a corresponding reverse DNS (rDNS), you could ask your ISP to set it for your connection, since it is static...

It seems that indeed the file /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/main.cf is used since the upgrade to OS X Server (Mountain Lion). In now compared the file....

I've compared the two files with each other, both:

- /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/main.cf

and

- /private/etc/postfix/main.cf

And OS X Server (Mountain Lion) used the former, like I thought at first.

At the bottom of my /etc/postfix/main.cf, there are a set of lines that suggests that this file hands off to the one in /Library/Server/... Having any lines at the bottom of the file indicates to me that this is not a default template file, but this in particular suggested to me that it's being parsed:

config_directory = /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix

I haven't actually tried setting the /etc version aside, mind you, I just remember coming across this line in the past. If both files are being parsed it would explain why renaming the /etc version does bad things.

I think they are being parsed, because I just made the main.cf in both /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix the same as the one in the /etc/postfix and this is what my mail log returned:

I think it is quicker to delete the Server app, by doing:

sudo rm -rf /Applications/Server.app
sudo rm -rf /Library/Server/Mail/

After this server is now uninstalled.

Then you should re-install from the App Store's purchased items tab.

Couple questions. If and remove and reinstall the OSX 10.8, what will happen to the emails? Will those be lost or will the file system remains, but only the application is removed?

If you want to keep your mail, do not execute the sudo rm -rf /Library/Server/Mail/ portion of my message! Should have said so...

Thanks. The other question is that I should do this from the terminal inside of ML and not as root as the server?
