my ipod classic 160 gb makes a clicking noise when i press the power button. it will not charge. then i get an onscreen message containing a red circle with a red ex through it and it refers me to the apple.com/ support page. how do i solve this issue? please assist

Well I was pretty excited after following all these threads for days and trying all these proposed solutions.
At least it works. I figured it was to good to be true, It still makes a little clicking sound. But it does work. What's the real fix? Open it up and replace the Hard Drive.?

It means that your hardware (Hardisk is dead) and need to be replaced.

Yes, the only way to fix that problem is to replace the disk.
The clicking is an indication that the disk is dying.

I had the same issue. That means that you HDD is gone bad. If you have warranty you are in luch, your iPOD will be replaced. Else you will either have to do a DIY to replace the HDD or try to find someone who will do it for you. There is no help here. 🙂 Sorry.
It was clicking last night. Now I have let it play the entire night. Turned it off and back on. No clicks.It's playing now. We'll see. Anyway it's better than it was. The next stop was the garbage can.I was already shopping for a new one. Now I have a little time to save up a little $.
Go on YouTube watch the video "Spank your ipod". I spent 2 days following all the threads about disk mode, restore etc. Nothing worked. Finally watched this video and Hot ****!!! it worked.!
Don't get to excited about fixing a disk problem that way. It will not last long at all. Once a disk starts down the slippery slope of failure, any fix like that is temporary at best.
