DLSMusicService crashes garageband

Hello;

I just installed Mountain Lion to My MBP. While thrown off by some of the "slowness", I'm not displeased.

However, I am having one severe problem with garageband now.

The DLSMusicService is not working. Within the dialog box, the "Soundbank" select bar is greyed out and stuck on "Quicktime Music Synthesizer" If I try to load one of my presets I get the message:

Failed loading the preset

Incompatible preset file: /Users/[user]/Library/Audio/Presets/Apple/DLSMusicDevice/Poly.aupreset

These worked fine before. Additionally, when I try to exit the dialog box, Garageband crashes.

Other Audio Unit Modules in the sound generation department are working fine. Software update and the app store seem to indicate that my QuickTime and Garageband and upto -date.

DLSMusicService is the module I use to play soundfonts. I'd hate to think I'm going to have to migrate to another soundfont player.

Has anyone else had to deal with this problem?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have the same problem. Today I noticed that Quicktime was affected by the soundfonts (the training program, Music Ace, which I use as a teaching tool, would no longer open - Music Ace reported that Quicktime needed to be debugged. It couldn't be debugged). So I deleted the soundfonts and everything was back to normal. I think the soundfonts are conflicting with the Quicktime synthesizer in Garageband, or are no longer compatible with Quicktime. That is what needs to be fixed by Apple.

I rather think that needs to be fixed by the developer of the soundfonts, if they are not compatible with the current MacOS X version. MacOS X Mt. Lion introduced additional restrictions for security reasons and any kind of plug-ins have to conform to the sandboxing, also new application versions require 64-bit plug-ins. For photo plug-ins this is discussed here, Aperture 3.4 and later: Some third-party plug-ins are no longer compatible, similar arguments may hold for audio.
