If you bought Windows once you own it. Use the install disks you already have.
lol silly, I installed it on my mom's computer so I don't really have it anymore. So basically I was just trying to find out if there was a way to play the game without Windows and it does not appear so. Saw another posting with a similar conversation.
You can try playonmac.. no windows required.

Very easy, just install, pick guildwars 2 setup and it will do all the work for you.
But the down side is i am getting very very bad frame rate.. 10 fps.. currently using the 2.6ghz macbook pro retina.
Atm i guess the best way is still bootcamp.
Using Bootcamp still requires that he own a copy of Windows to use.
Hope this helps 🙂
Yup. But he can still install windows 8 preview, which is free atm.
Currently here is all the ways i can think of without using windows:
(wine)
Wine winery (GW2 black screen client.. with enuff tinkering should work) - free
PlayOnMac (GW2 installs correctly .. but 10 fps, maybe issues with settings) - free
Crossover for mac (Works, but graphical gliches) - need to buy crossover
Using windows / virtual machine:
Bootcamp - install windows 8 - works 100% (need to get apple drivers setup correctly) - free
Parallels 7 with win8 - trial 14 days - still testing.
Thank you all for your feedback. I installed Fusion since I had already purchased it and installed Windows and installed GW2 and am having a lot of graphics issues and mouse issues (Windows USB Mouse). I may just buy a cheap laptop or just not play GW2.

BootCamp would probably work better.

Using PlayOnMac
I was getting an average of about 14-18fps over PlayOnMac (using the latest wine 1.5.11gw2 wrapper) with most settings on High (and a few like LOD, Textures and PostProcessing on Medium) both 1440 & 1650 (fullscreen x11) settings on a 2.6 Retina. Although framerates seem low, it is certainly playable even in decent sized mob battles. Lowering res or settigns to Low didn't do much for fps increase either, still around 15-19fps. Either way, this approach is free and shouldn't stop you from enjoying a great game if you can't run via bootcamp for whatever reason. Make sure to get the latest 1.5.11gw2 wine version from PlayOnMac as it fixed some of the issues (tearing, slowdowns and color-changing textures) from the default 1.5.9raw3 version created by the installer script.
Using Bootcamp/Win8
Tried switching to bootcamp/win8 and right away the game runs noticably better now (or, as it should! 😉) - at 1920, all settings on high, have not checked actual fps yet, but no slowdown and moves real smooth. May try some settings on ultra later, but don't see this necessary, as it looks pretty great. I am having occassional mouse tracking/clicking issues though using the BT Magic Mouse and trackpad - haven't tried a wired usb mouse yet. Hope this helps. will check back in.
Back. Bootcamp
- 1920x1200/all settings High runs ~28-39fps.
- 1650x1050/all settings on High runs ~42-59 fps.
Not too shabby.
I ended up using Bootcamp which works really nicely and am able to play now. Mouse is a little flakey but will work on it. Thanks everyone for your input.
Mouse pointer missing in the GW2 Client. Any suggestions?
Ok, so I've tried 3 different mice (USB Wired, Apply mouse and USB Wireless keyboard/mouse). I made sure that the mac mouse/keybard were turned off once I added the USB keyboard/mouse. I've updated my video driver (Radeon), mouse/keyboard software and it works fine in windows, but in the GW2 client the mouse pointer disappears. I don't think this is normal. Any other drivers or settings I might need to adjust to make the mouse pointer work? Posted to GW2 support but might be a while before they get to me and they will see the word Mac and say "we don't support Mac" I'm guessing.
Thanks
This was fixed by turning off the mouse trail in mouse settings.
As of today (Sept 18th) Arenanet has released a native Mac client (still in Beta) for Guild Wars 2. You can download it from your account page now. 🙂
Yeah! Time to remove bootcamp and windows :)
Tip: Before tossing out that old bootcamp partition, save yourself some time & redownloading of the game by simply opening up the GW2 app's container via right-clicking the app and navigate to the folder TransGaming/GW2/, then drag the large gw2.dat file from the windows bootcamp partion into the Mac App's GW2 folder, replacing the existing file (if one exists). Restart the GW2 app on your Mac and you'll have the latest files ready to go without the massive download!
Hope this helps. 🙂
