Incorrect name on messages?!

I have just upgraded to mountain lion; love it so far, but I have a problem with messages. When I first loaded it up I was asked to log in using iCloud/apple ID, which I did. To begin with messages were sending fine, but the response would only come through to my phone. I fixed that now, but I've just realised on my screen it says I'm sending outgoing messages as 'Marilyn Christison'........which is my mothers name. Now she has never once used my computer, or my iPhone, nor iCloud, she has no ios devices! So why is it her name coming up!? This is so weird.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1)

Open Contacts on your Mac. On the Contacts Menu, after opening your own contact information, select Card > Make This My Card

That should solve your problem!

I had fixed it moments before I got your message, but I did it by changing the information on my mums contact card for my own, then making a new one for her. Still don't know why it made here details mine but whatever. Thanks.

Glad you got it fixed! My guess why your mom had the earlier honor is that she and you share last names, but her name is before yours alphabetically. That's only a guess.

Same problem as dannymhi, only messages from my wife were showing up as if they had come from me. My contact showed the "my card" head-and-shoulders icon next to it, but I chose Card | Make this my card as sberman suggested anyway, and lo--the problem was fixed. Thanks!
