Cannot login with my email address (before Apple ID)

I used to have an account on this site linked to my email address and I was even subscribed to certain discussions (like this onewhere I posted with the account I'm trying to access again).

When I try to login to this account (that now is linked to an Apple ID) the system asks me to create a new account with the specified Apple ID — it doesn't connect me to that account. If I try to create a new account with that email addess, the response is:

An account utilizing this email address already exists.

Only one account per email address is allowed on Apple Support Communities.

So I am effectively locked out of this account. The main concern is the fact that I'm still subscribed to some old discussion I don't give a **** about anymore, but I still receive email notifications.

How can I access this account, probably by upgrading and linking it to my Apple ID?
