Q: What is the preferred configuration when using a FIOS router and a Time Capsule? Does the Time Capsule need to be hardwired to the FIOS router?

I am trying to configure my Time Capsule with a newly installed FIOS router. I am thinking that I want the Time Capsule as the access point to take advantage of the firewall aspects of the airport but I am not sure if I have to hardwire the Time capsule to the FIOS Router via Ethernet or if it can make the connection wirelessly.

If you want the Time Capsule to function as a wireless access point for your network, then it must be connected to the FIOS router using a wired Ethernet connection.

The connection would run from one of the LAN <-> ports on the FIOS router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule.

Unless you specifically need two wireless networks, it would be a good idea to turn off the wireless function on the FIOS router if possible, to help reduce the chances of wireless interference, which can occur when two routers in close proximity are both generating wireless signals.
