It sounds to me as though the document has become corrupt. You can try and download it from one device or another, however this may be unsuccessful.
Whilst it won't help you recover documents that have already become corrupt, can I suggest you get into the habit of backing up your documents in the cloud regularly.

I have the original backed up on my MacBook Pro and my external hard drive so I haven't lost anything, fortunately.
However, I wanted to use my iPhone for counting my inventory at work as it's nice and portable. It isn't really feasible to carry my laptop around. I'm trying to save time on having to count and then enter the numbers into my program. I figured I could use the iPhone and it would automatically update the spreadsheet on my MacBook.
The file is 1.3MB, so I wondered if this was the issue. I tried a smaller file (105KB) and this did open. Does anyone know if there is a file size limit in working this way? If so, why is this?
Thanks

Aug 29, 2012 1:18 PM in response to Winston Churchillby snowdude36,and they open on your iPhone fine?

Aug 29, 2012 1:26 PM in response to Winston Churchillby snowdude36,I should also add, I just downloaded the file from iCloud back to my MacBook Pro and it opened fine. So this means the file in iCloud is obviously ok, it just won't open on my iPhone for some reason.

Aug 29, 2012 1:48 PM in response to snowdude36by Winston Churchill,I'm not sure you can conclude that. If the version in the cloud simply didn't fully download to the phone properly, that may explain what you see.
99% of my iCloud documents are trouble free. If I do get one that causes an issue, I usually delete it (using system preferences > iCloud > manage if necessary), check that it's deleted everywhere, then upload it again with a slightly different name.

Aug 29, 2012 2:25 PM in response to Winston Churchillby snowdude36,Thanks for trying to assist me on this.
I did as you said, and deleted the file from iCloud. It disappeared from my phone too. Then I uploaded it to iCloud again and it reappeared in my iPhone. Unfortunately, I still have the same problem with it not opening. Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Aug 29, 2012 2:30 PM in response to snowdude36by Winston Churchill,The document goes through a conversion process to be opened on iOS device, I can only suspect that there is something in the document that is causing this process a problem, I wouldn't know what though.
