PowerPoint 2011 won't open on my MacBook Pro

Microsoft PowerPoint 2011 will not open on my MacBook Pro. The other night I was looking at PowerPoint files without any issues, and now today I cannot open existing PowerPoint files or open a new PowerPoint document. If I click File -> New Presentation it takes me to the window where I can choose a PowerPoint template. When I select the template nothing happens and a new file will not open. I have restarted my computer several times and this does not help. I have updated my system to OS X 10.8.1 and I have checked for Microsoft updates and there are none at this time. All other Microsoft Office programs (Word and Excel) are working properly. Is anyone else having a similar problem? Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1)

Maybe it sounds silly and insophisticated, but have you checked tiny little sign just below the menu bar at top left of your screen? If you point your mouse there, then it will show arrow sign. If you click-hold the sign, then you can drag it across your screen to make your powerpoint page visible.

I faced similar problem like you did, but when I was about to reinstall the office, I spotted that tiny sign on the top left of my screen. I clicked, held and tried to drag it down, and woilaa.. my powerpoint screen is back again. Somehow my powerpoint screen was minimized, probably happened when I tried to fix my problem with projector connection.

Good luck then...

I had this issue too, thank goodness for this post. I couldn't see a small sign top left (as per kharisma235's reply), but my issue came from having my MBP plugged into an external screen – the missing Powerpoint presentation was hiding in the nether region between the two screens. As soon as I disconnected the external screen, the PPT document appeared centre of screen on my MBP. Problem solved. Unfortunately that means I've got to use Powerpoint now...

Thanks for the suggestion. That's exactly what happened to me too. My MBP was plugged into a Thunderbolt Display and I was working on a powerpoint file in the extended screen. I guess I never dragged the powerpoint window back to my laptop screen and unplugged my computer from the display when I left work. Strangely, opening a new powerpoint file ends up with the window off the laptop screen. The only way to get see it is to change your display setting scale to show more (i.e. smaller font). The you can just drag the powerpoint window back near the native screen's display area and change the display setting back to default.

if the other answers didn't help, open a new powerpoint and click open on the top left, click on the file you wish to use,in less than a minute you will be prompted with a message that says"your file was corrupt, would you like us to fix it and restart power point"click yes and after a few minutes open your docs and click on the powerpoint you wish to use, and it should be working.Hope this was helpful
