Unfortunately it is not possible to change your primary mac.com or me.com email address for iCloud (See also Apple's FAQ: @mac.com and @me.com Apple IDs cannot be renamed), but you could stop using this account and create a new one.

Another option would be to create up to three email alises for your current primary email address.

Try this to create a new alias for your me.com address:

    1. Open the web interface of iCloud "www.icloud.com" with Safari
    2. Log in
    3. Open "Mail"
    4. Open "Preferences" (by clicking on the little button in the upper right corner)
    5. Go to "Accounts"
    6. Click on "Add an alias" (it would be another me.com address, you can not create new mac.com addresses since MobileMe was launched)
    7. Finished

By the way: If you want to set up iCloud on your Mac you need Lion or Mountain Lion.

When you say "stop using this account and create a new on one" - it is not as simple as stated.

What you mean is that you must set-up a new Apple ID, which gives you the privileged of setting up a new @me address

However, if you do this, be very careful about which Apple ID you use in iTunes to make purchases.  If you use two different Apple ID's, you will complicate your iTunes music library as well as the purchase distribution between all of your current (and future) devices - ("complicate" is being nice, it will actually be a nightmare).  Have you ever tried using two Apple ID's on the same Mac or PC to purchase music.......it isn't pretty?

NOTE:  To complicate things further, as of the writing of this post, Apple has released Mountain Lion and IOS 6.  As such, new @me addresses are no longer available.  The new addresses being issued with new Apple ID's use the domain icloud.com.

    Just great............

True - but you have to be willing to take a risk & hit that very scary RED "DELETE" button. It WILL save the stuff on the iPhone...but it really made me uncomfortable to forge ahead. I think they should have a MUCH friendlier way to update one's email address!!
