    Hi.

    Apparently this is a benign System warning. There is another thread regarding exactly that same thing at this link...

    I hope this is helpful.

    For reasons only known to Apple you can't get rid of it, but you can ignore it!

    As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:

    Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 onwards:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448

    Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard onwards changed the location of a number of system components.

    Poster rccharles has provided this description of what it all means:

    drwxrwxrwx

    d = directory

    r = read

    w = write

    x = executeable program

    drwxrwxrwx

    |  |  |

    |  |   all other users not in first two types

    |  |

    |  group

    owner

    a little more info

    Before the user had read & write. A member of the group had read.

    After, only the user had read & write.

    Hi, it is a very bad thing if one is using apples so called "Professional" recording software Logic pro--it causes Logic to lose all audio output [ Safari and iTunes still had audio output ]  and when I called apple care I was told to re install the OS which did fix it but for how long I wonder.

    At least in 10.8, but I won't be moving up on any soft or hardware from apple if the problem isn't fixed in 10.8.

    Yesterday I got an update which included a new versionof theARD app and said it would fix problems with the firewall and the ARD agent app,we shall see.
