i have an 24-inch iMac early 2008, as follows:

it has an Mini-DVI output port at the back.
can I use this Mini-DVI output port (in the same way as the MiniDisplay ports on the 2009 to 2010 models) to have my iMac act as the external monitor for (for example) an iMac Pro?

I thought about the following work-around solution to achieve the same result, see picture attached. Do you think this is feasible?
I am looking at a new iMac and would also like to use my 2008 24" iMac as an additional monitor. Were you successful? Any thoughts?
I discussed using VNC viewer with Mac shop, and they thought there would be quite a delay. I also asked VNC support themselves and their response was: "Our technical department have come back and said that it should be fine as long as you can make sure that the networking and display resolution suits your needs".
