What is you Aperture version and MacOS version?

And what did you do right before the problem started? Installed other software, fonts, plug-ins? Imported new images or videos? Upgraded your system? Moved your Aperture library to a new drive?

Assuming you are using Aperture 3 - have you tried to launch Aperture with the shift-key held down? This defers the generation of previews of previews and may you allow to access the library again. If this should be the case, remove your most recent import.

    Dear Léonie

thanks a lot four your tips. I am using Lion and aperture 3. It worked well for aprox 3 month. Physically the library is on the computer as I can access e.g. with picasa. Shift start and also the complete rebuild of the mediathek did not resolved the issue. The aperture program itself does not hang up, but the library loading is never finished, so I quite the program.

    Markus,

we need to know the exact version of Aperture and Lion. Have you upgraded to the latest version of Aperture 3.3.2 and MacOS X 10.7.4 or are you using earlier versions? Then upgrading might help.

Also, are your images contained in the Aperture Library (Mediathek) or do you reference them outside? And how do you access the library using Picasa? Did you edit or move any Aperture images using Picasa?

Check, if your Aperture version is working, by creating a new Aperture Library and importing some test pictures. Then we will know, if your library is faulty, or if you have a more general problem

I am running OS  X 10.7.4. and aperture 3.3.2. The images are in the Aperture Library. Picasa was maybe not a so good exemple. I just installed it to check if the program finds some images, it does but not really usable. I think the problem lies in the aperture software, when I am creating a new library I only see the menue bar and no window below, when I try to import folders or pictures nothing happens.

I think the best is to reinstall aperture. What do I have to consider before doing so?

    Regards

    Markus,

it may also be a problem of corrupted user preferences or presets in your user account. You may want to check this by launching Aperture from a different user account - use the guest account or create a new account for testing from the "Users&Groups" System preferences pane (Systemeinstellungen).

If you see the same problem from a diffrent user account then reinstall Aperture, see this support article:

    Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805

But if Aperture works fine from a different accout, then remove the user preferences, and  if necessary, the user presets.

I think the best is to reinstall aperture. What do I have to consider before doing so?

This depends, on how you installed Aperture in the first place. Did you download it from the App Store? Then you reinstall by deleting Aperture from the Applications folder and downloading it again from the App Store.

Make a backup of your system before you reinstall.

    Leonie

I started aperture under the guest account. This worked. I switched back to my account and started aperture with the idea to remove the user preferences, but amazingly, aperture opened the library now and everything runs well again.

    Thanks for your support!
