LEAP/PEAP Issues Resolved!!

Hey guys, I figured out how to fix LEAP/PEAP issues (with at least TTLS/PAP but I assume this fix works for everything).

Here's what you do.

1) Download the 1.1.1 version of the driver (we have 1.1.0) here:
http://chrisnolan.org/IO80211Family.kext.zip

2) Back up your copy of the driver which is found in /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext

3) Drag the new driver into the /System/Library/Extensions/ folder

4) Open up a terminal

5) Type:

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/

6) Restart

7) Enjoy!

Just wanted to let you know that this worked perfectly for me. A few other people around here have tried it too and it works wonderfully! We are all using PEAP.

It looks like the firmware gets upgraded, but I think it is actually just reporting the firmware of the card for the guy who originally posted the .zip file. His card (on the Mac Mini) was probably 0.1.16. So, I don't think the firmware is actually getting updated. Anyway, it works with these files in place, so I'm not complaining!

Interesting, I'm surprised System Profiler isn't checking directly, or that the system isn't checking on boot, and storing the information for later use by apps like System Profiler. It seems odd that it would just trust what's in that file.

But likewise, I'm not complaining either! A month without wireless on campus was enough for me. =)

wait...isn't firmware supposed to be on the actual hardware? if so, why is asp reporting the firmware version if it's not really a firmware thing? or does the system confirm the firmware upon boot and adjust if necessary based on what's in the kext?

I've tested this driver extensively for 24 hours now and the Airport connection is flawless. It connects automatically after sleep and on first boot. (128 Bit WEP, Linksys WRT54G) This is great news!

I don't think this solution fixes LEAP, only PEAP.
