"Still Waiting For Root Device"

Hi

I installed OS X on my iMac G4 via Single User Mode as I don't have the disk and everything worked fine until I shut it down.

Now when I boot it up I am greeted with an error/stop sign? - When I try to user Single User Mode I just get continuous lines saying "still waiting for root device"

PLEASE HELP!!!
