Q: iPad 3 - "Cannot Connect to iTunes Store" - Updates only

Hello All,

Im having an issue with my new iPad its only been doing this last week or so but its a pain and I now feel I cant get the best out of my apps.

Bascially everytime i hit the updates tab in the app store i get an instant message saying "Cannot connect to itunes store"

This ONLY happens on updates store, i can still purchase and install apps and install free apps etc and if i come across (by seraching) for my app i can update it manually buy hitting update but obviously I want the normal method to work to stay up to date.

Ive seen a lot of posts and people saying about changing dates and times and setting DNS to 8.8.8.8 these methods do not change a thing.

any help would be greatly appriciated

    Hi again,

I was wondering if you upgraded to iOS6 and, if so, has it helped.

I upgraded today and now I'm getting the error in other contexts. I select the new app call "Passbook". Then I click on the app store link in there. When it transfers me to the app store I get "Cannot connect to iTunes store" immediately.

However the old place (the update tab) has not become problematic again.

I decided to try moving my date way forward again. While it was way forward it still didn't work. Then I put it back and it still didn't work.

But here's something interesting (perhaps relating to what you see). When the date was way forward the update tab of the app store wouldn't work. This is as expected. However the error it gave was simply "Cannot connect to iTunes store". It did not explicitly complain about not being able to get a secure connection.

Not working for me. The change of date did not trigger the security message... What DID work for me is :

Sign out at the bottom of Featured

    Turn off the device ..slider

    Turn back on

Sign in at the bottom of Featured

    Updates now work

Worked with ipad3, Thanks, thanks thanks!!

Did not receive the "Cannot connect to the Store - A secure connection could not be established.  Please check your Date & Time settings", after setting the date, just the basic "Cannot connect to itunes Store".

Set the date back to auto anyway, and tried to connect to App store again and it worked!

    Thanks for sharing, Seaottr !!!

I am also getting the 'cannot connect to iTunes store' on my iPad 3 running iOS 6.1.

Except I get this error as all apple apps are opening (AppStore, iTunes, itunesU, podcasts, music)

I have tried changing the date which didn't work. Tried changing location settings. Device hard reset. Reset all settings.

I have also tried a normal restore and a dfu mode restore. Still get this error when trying to open the apps :(

This happened to me on a brand new iPad 3 i only took delibvery of on Wednesday. The thing that fixed it was changing my apple id password  - my old one did not meet their new security guidelines. Very simple to fix in the end but very frustrating to have to...

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I updated my icloud username a little bit ago (I'm using an iPad mini 2) and I got stuck in this endless cycle of "cannot connect to apple id server" and "you need to turn off find my iphone before signing out" etc. etc.

This finally fixed it and I can now update to 9.3.3 and use my updated icloud account!

    THANK YOU!
