Quickly runs out of battery on macbook pro 2009

What model of 2009 (early,which owuld actually be a late-2008 model, or a mid 2009) - is it the one with the user accessible battery? If so, where did you get the battery from? If it is one of the sealed battery unibody MBP's did you replace it yourself or did you have Apple do it (and again, if you did it yourself, where did you get the battery)?

The reason I ask is if you bought an inexpensive battery on eBay or some such place, it may well be very old warehouse stock, which means you basically bought a battery that was worthless to begin with (Lithium batteries decay if left in storage for long periods of time such that a battery that has sat for one or more years in a warehouse is useless).
