Make sure you have the available iOS updates and Carrier Settings.
If that doesn't do it, you can try Resetting Network Settings from Settings > General > Reset. You can also try restoring the iPhone.

I tried everything that I could think of and then contacted O2 and they suggested that I remove my sim card, clean it and re-insert it and it seemed to do the trick. Phone is now working fine again.
