What do i do if my contacts are gone after i updated but everything else stayed the same?

I updated my phone for the first time in months and it deleted everything from my conacts but everything else stayed the same. how do i get them back?

iPhone 3GS, Windows Vista

You should be synving to your computer or cloud service regularly.

Your contacts will be in whatever program/service you ahve been syncing. If you have failed to sync them then they are very likely gone.

You can try restoring from backup.
