I realize from your post that you have 50 stickies already created and are trying to have them stay in place using Mountain Lion.
But, have you tried using Notes instead of Stickies in Mountain Lion?
I put a link below that lists a few ways to convert your Stickies to Notes.
Notes in Mountain Lion can be used as Stickies and they are more feature rich than Stickies.
In Mountain Lion, the Notes app has also become "Sticky".
You can create Notes and pin one or more to your desktop. So they then are left open and can be moved around as you wish.
To do this, create a note with information you need access to.
To "pin it", double click the "list" you created in the note on the left side.
A scalable window should appear with the note, date and time stamp.
From there it will be pinned to your desktop where you can edit it and move it to where you like.
