Virgin Mobile (USA) can't activate iPhones

I was having a problem with Virgin Mobile's 3G network not working on an iPhone 4s (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4196917). Eventually Virgin decided the phone was probably defective and that I needed a new one.

On Sunday I got a replacement at an Apple Store. But Virgin wasn't able to activate it. They can't find the MEID in their system, so they say there's basically nothing they can do. They said I'd have to go get another new phone to replace this one.

On Tuesday I got another replacement at an Apple Store. Virgin Mobile can't activate this one either, for exactly the same reason. I was on the phone with Virgin for an hour and 45 minutes and it was a complete waste of time. They want me to go back to Apple for a third replacement phone.

I could probably do that but I don't know why it would work this time when it's failed twice this week already.

Virgin just keeps telling me that they're doing something or other and that I'll have to wait 1-3 days for any news. I've already been without phone service for four days.

Is anyone else having problems where Virgin Mobile just can't activate an iPhone? If so, did you ever get it resolved? They sell these phones and advertise them, but they don't seem to be able to actually make them work.

If you email saveme@thevirginangels.com and include all of your phone information. Your acct number, meid number, phone number etc. they will turn it on within about 2-4 hours the same day. They won't call you but they may send a confirmation email that it has been resolved. It sounds weird but just do it because if you call the customer service you will wait at least a week. Good luck!

I just had this issue. The power/sleep/wake button on my iPhone 4S stopped functioning. I brought my phone to the Apple Store and they replaced it for me at the Genius Bar. I was told that since it's a Virgin Mobile phone, I'd have to call them to activate. I didn't think it'd be a problem but I was told I'd have to wait at least 24 hours because they couldn't find the MEID.

HERE'S HOW TO WORK AROUND THAT:

Call Virgin Mobile and ask directly for technical support. Don't bother with the customer service menu because they can't help. Once you get to technical support let them know that you have a replacement phone from the Apple Store and that the MEID needs to be added to their database so it's supported on their network. After waiting/being on hold for roughly 15-30 minutes, the technician I spoke with let me know that the MEID was added to the database. After that, I had to do a service update. On the iPhone, dial ##873283# ... after that, the phone brings up a badge that says "service update". I hit ok and the phone reset it's signal. Virgin 3G should show at the top left of the screen. It's honestly SO easy to do, but Virgin Mobile's customer service is horrible. They don't have the answers to anything. Act like you know something and be assertive to get your problem resolved!

I, too, had this problem with Virgin Mobile. After replacing my iphone because of shattered screen (so happy I invested in Applecare+) I called Virgin Mobile to activate service. I was given a case ID number and was told that I would get a call back within 24 hours because Virgin Mobile needed to add my MEID number to their system. 48 hours later, no call back. So, I call Virgin Mobile again with my case id number. I ask for technical support. The front line person tells me that technical support has already solved my activation problem. I must just dial #873283# on my phone. I do so and viola, my activiation is all set. So sad I waited for a call back--that never came--I would still be without a phone if I had not called again. Perhaps getting to technical support instead of the front line personnel might be faster on the first call, but definitely try self-activiting after a few hours of giving your MEID number to the virgin mobile folks by dialing the #873283# on your iphone.

If people are still having this problem now, I have found a solution with out contacting virgin and I didn't email saveme@thevirginangels.com, whom I think only deal with iphones purchased with virgin or bought in the USA.

I had been searching for hours, but found a solution on one of virgin medias help and support forums by someone who had the same problem.

To fix your problem just do the following:

Firstly, enable wifi and go to safari and vist m.apnchanger.org

You then want to press manually

and then enter the following:

APN Name: goto.virginmobile.uk
Username: user
Password: leave blank

You'll then press Install Profile and then press INSTALL again. Hey Presto your 3G Should now work!

Hope this helps 🙂

I'm currently dealing with the same problem. It's been over 6 days now and I am still awaiting phone service. Virgin claims the issue is with the phone and Apple is claiming that the new phone I received from them is the same phone that everyone else receives. Apple is saying that I need a new VM sim card and Virgin is claiming that there are no sim cards for the iphone 4s. The only thing the phone allows me to do is pick a wifi network and a language. I can't even access Safari or settings or anything else on the phone because it keeps telling me that i need to connect the phones to itunes. When I do that, it asks me to enter my "sprint" phone number and ss# or pin number. When I go ahead and enter my info, it notifies me that pin number i have entered is incorrect and to please contact apple for support. I have literally spent 7 hours on the phone with virgin and 2 and a half hours on the phone with apple. Virgin, as you might guess, has the WORST customer support service ever. There is absolutely no accountability on their end, so they repeatedly lie about calling you back because they know that there is no possibility in **** of ever getting back in touch with the person, as their made up name and employee id number mean nothing to any other member of their company. I'm just wondering if I can switch to another carrier with the same phone, as it's clearly not a virgin mobile phone anyway.
