WPA & WPA2 Personal with DLink DI-624

Hi folks. Glad to be back...I think.

I want to set my DLink wireless router (DI-624) for WPA encryption for me laptop, which is a Powerbook, which runs on 10.4.5. Lovely.

It doesn't work. Not yet at least.

Internet Connect says that there's a problem joining the Airport network.

I have it set for WPA2 Personal on both systems. I even tried Hex password in capital letters and numbers. Nothing.

Silly thing is, the router says I authenticated just fine. It's a nice router, I respect DLink products over SMC and Linksys any day of the week.

I won't go to WEP. I'm surprised that technology was ever released to be honest.

Any leadership highly appreciated.

In Wireless section of the D-link setup

disable super G mode.

then in the security drop down choose

WPA2-Auto
cipher type tkip
psk

use a 8 character passcode for starters.

Hi Tim.

Super G was disabled. WPA2 doesn't have an Auto option.

tkip was being reported by the router in the Status tab, but there is no option.

PSK / EAP: (psk chosen)

Will try a new passcode.

OK after restarting, the router changed encryption to AES_CCMP.

Any ideas?

I'm having a thread with myself here. Hehe.

Firmware version 2.53 says it removed the cypher type. So it's automatic. Everything seems legit. Still not working.

Hmm, I just used their web gui emulator and it shows the settings that I recommended.

I suggest you try a Internet Explorer to setup your d-link router. D-link routers are buggy with most mac browsers.

See that is firmware 2.70. Canadian latest firmware (believe it or not) is 2.53, and it indicates it's taken off that option.

I'll try IE as well, just in case. I'll post here if I find anything. Nah I'll do it now.

Ya same thing. Authentication Success by the laptop, but the laptop just negates it's working.

The router log keeps on reporting that the laptop authenticates, then disconnects. Something isn't happy.

I would suggest you use kismac to scan your immediate area to see if there are any conflicting wireless networks. If so then you can setyour d-link to transmit on a different channel.

I would suggest you use different settings again

superG without turbo
security WPA
TKIP
PSK

8 character passphrase

Does your PowerBook have the original AirPort card or an AirPort Extreme card? You can check in System Profiler the Network section.

Apple does not support WPA2 on the original AirPort card.
