dock keeps crashing

Question

dock keeps crashing

my dock, on my Mac, keeps on crashing sometimes when i click it (mostly with right-clicks).. it happens like 4 times a day. i can tell it's crashing because it will disappear, then re-appear all by itself..

I have formatted and reinstalled OS X, but it still does it..

please help.

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.4.5), 1.42GHz, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD / A+ Certified Professional / Network+ Certified Professional

Teh Dashbaord operates under the Dock.app - have you tried killing all your widgets to see if that's it?

i don't use the dashboard, it never has a widget on it...

How about removing the com.apple.dock.plist pref file to reset settings? Have you tried removing almost everything from the dock then seeing what happens? Add one thing back at a time to see if an app is causing the problems.

As I said, I have reformatted my Mac, and it continues to do it, even with the default icons.

I have run hardware diagnostics on my Mac, and all passes.

I am talking about this on another forum, and have talked about it in my tech classes, with other Mac people, and we have come to the conclusion it is a bug with the OS X. We have done cylic redundancy checks on my DVD in the class to, and it's not my install disc.

It can't possibly be my hardware though, because if it was, it would affect other things, not just the dock.

have you checked the console & system logs for the times that you've had the problem?

sometimes there's an entry there that relates to things like this - If in doubt - post the entries just before & after the dock goes & we'll take a look.
