May 26, 2013 10:18 AM in response to OlofMorkby KristiMcK,Had this problem just now. The MacBook signed in with no problem, the iMac complained.
After futilely trying the various suggestions here what worked for me was logging out from my normal user account I use on the machine, logging into the primary account and logging into the App Store from there.

Unfortunatley I can't sign in the first place to sign out ...Just get the cursed "an unknown error has occurred " when I try to login. Yet I can sign in on my daughters Macbook no worries ...Grrrrrrrrrrr!

Jul 11, 2013 9:36 AM in response to OlofMorkby Yanik Dhont,No need to sign in first.
Deleting Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and then delete NetworkInterfaces.plist
Restarting. Going to the system prefs/network - saving then launching the app store.
Did the trick for me.

My issue was that I have 2 NICs, and I started using the 2nd one after experiencing issues with the 1st. Basically OS X and the APP Store/iCloud/etc. did not like that I had changed from "Ethernet" to "Ethernet 2". By deleting this plist file, then rebooting with NIC #2 connected (and no cable in NIC 1), OS X recognized the #2 NIC as the "Ethernet" and not "Ethernet 2". Kinda wacky, but I am glad it worked.

Oct 24, 2013 11:15 AM in response to dokats33by madcap802,It's under Finder "Go" tab computer/Library/preferences/system configuration. I deleted the .plist file but it didn't resolve the sign in error. What did work for me was I was able to change my country from US to Canada. Then when I signed in a message came up something like " the Apple ID you entered is associated with a different country" it redirected back to USA and logged me in with no issue. As a result Mavericks is installed and it's awesome!
Good Luck.
