I have a PowerMac G4 that I just installed a Sonnet 1.4Ghz upgrade into. My stock 60GB hard drive is running out of space and I want to buy a bigger hard drive (~250GB). I understand I need to buy a PCI controller card so my mac can see the bigger drive. My question is - is it worth it to just go with a SATA drive or a Parallel ATA? I believe from what I've read that the SATA speeds are significantly faster and I'd rather spend a few more dollars and get more bang for my buck. I'm looking at a Western Digital 250GB SATA with 16mb buffer and a Sonnet Tempo PCI-SATA controller card. Am I on the right track?
I'm holding off a bit until the Intel PowerMac comes into play - but even if there is a release this summer, I will wait at least another year or two because I want the apps to catch up. Meanwhile, I want to enjoy my G4 as much as possible 🙂
