I have gone into preferences and selected PSE as my editor for iPhoto, but when I'm in PSE and I try to open a photo it says there a program error. Does anyone know how to fix this?

If you use PSE as an External editor you don't open anything from PSE. Instead you choose to edit it from iPhoto. That sends the file to PSE.
Then how do I link a photo to another project I'm working on? Such as I create a background and then place a photo smaller than the background onto it via a new layer?
Send the image from iPhoto to PSE and copy it on to the background image?
i tried bringing from iphoto, but couldn't get it to work unless I dragged it over, but then it was it's own and I couldn't get as a layer onto another. I didn't try to copy. I'll try that when I am in front of my computer later. Thanks
No. No dragging. No copying. Just select in iPhoto and edit in PSE

And iPhoto dies not support layers so you have to flatten it to get it into iPhoto

Once I get it open in PSE will copying it work to bring it into a layer on another project?
Is the version of PSE purchased through the App store and the box version the same?
For PSE support there are Adobe support forums and options and a PSE user manual. Teaching PSE usage is beyond the scpoe of this iPhoto user to user support forum
