I bought a miniDP to HDMI lead so that i can watch movies from my macbook pro on my viera panasonic tv, however i still cannot watch. WHY DOESNT IT WORK? The DASHBOARD appears on the tv but nothing else. can anybody help???

I also bought a mini-display adapter to HDMI to connect my Macbook Air 2011 to a 2011 Panasonic ST30. The Air recongizes the Panasonic display, but the Panasonic display shows nothing . . . "no signal detected."
The hdmi adapter and hdmi cable worked to connect my Air to the Samsung HDTV at my office this morning. Anyone have any ideas?
