What is your cellular reception throughout the day?

The lower the cellular reception, more battery will be used to maintain the reception with or without any calls.

How many calls received and placed?

How many text messages received and sent?

How much internet access when connected to the cellular network?

How often is the screen on and what is your screen brightness setting? The more the screen is on, more battery is used. The brighter the screen setting when the screen is on, more battery is used.

How many email accounts are you accessing with the iPhone's Mail app? Any accounts that support Push access? If not, what is your Fetch setting for automatically checking for new email?

How many emails are received and sent throughout the day?

Do you play any games, listen to music, or watch any videos?

There are many factors that affect battery life.

Restore iPhone with iTunes on computer, at end when prompted, Set Up as New iPhone. See if better. If still problem, make Genius reservation and take to Apple for quick free battery diagnostic testing. If there is a problem it will be covered by Warranty.

lots of things can cause it. you first want to clear multi tasking by double tapping the home button. holding down a application in tell they shake and then hit the minus sign on all of them. You want to turn off wifi when you are not using it, minimize your location services, turn off push notifications, fetch new data less frequently, turn off push emails, auto check fewer emails, turn off blue tooth, adjust brightness. if you want to know how to do any of these steps or more about ion batteries go to this web site http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html

Very few apps run in the background. The number that do are very few and far between. Removing an app from the recently used apps bar or dock that does not run in the background affects nothing in regards to battery consumption. Quitting a music steaming app that runs in the background does.

you first want to clear multi tasking by double tapping the home button
That will help only in rare circumstances, as Allan explained.  iOS "multitasking" is very different than other OSs:

    Do all the normal things:

    -Turn down brightness

-Turn off cellular and 3G when not needed

-Turn off wi-fi when not needed

-Turn off location services when not needed

Just research small things that can make a big difference.
