Q: changing icloud account on iphone?

Hello! So, when I activated my iphone, icloud was set up using my parents' apple id. I haven't yet used icloud, but I want to, just not with their id. Is there a way to change my apple id associated with icloud without deleting my parents' account?

You can't have two account active, only one.  Go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to bottom and tap "Delete Account".  This doesn't delete data in the icloud account, it only drops the connection to that account.  (And all data from that account will be erased from the iphone.)  Then log in using your icloud ID.

I have a closely related situation.  But I DON'T want to delete my parents contacts (mostly relatives) and photos that are currently on the iPhone4.  Can I switch iCloud accounts and KEEP that data?

i just did the same thing. When you go to delete your iCloud account to change your email (what i did), it will ask if you want to keep the data on the iPhone (i.e. contacts, reminders, calendars, etc.) and it worked fine for me. However, i also have my contacts linked to another email on my phone, and i would certainly back them up somewhere else before deleting the account just in case! :-)

FYI, deleting an iCloud account will not effect contacts of other data associated with another non-iCloud account such as Gmail, Yahoo, exchange, etc.  It only removes iCloud data (unless you elect to keep it on your device when prompted).

I have the same situation. Parents phone and their iCloud account. they have no idea how to recovery the password for the iCloud account. I am trying to pass the phone to my son but we are unable to switch the phone to my iCloud account.
