Aug 31, 2012 2:28 PM in response to Jaquilby whatheck,Try tapping Settings > General > Restrictions and making sure they aren't disabled.
If that isn't it, you can search Spotlight for the apps or Reset the Home Screen Layout from Settings > General > Reset.
You can get more info about Restrictions here -> iOS: Understanding Restrictions

Aug 31, 2012 2:27 PM in response to Jaquilby lllaass,- Have you tried using the Spotlight search to try to find them? Maybe you just can't find them?
While the App store, Safari, Camera and FaceTime can be hidden by Restrictions, Notes, calendar and contacts can't.
- Next try:
- A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

Aug 31, 2012 3:43 PM in response to Jaquilby lllaass,If yo are still missing the apps after restoring to factory settings/new iPod you really have a strange problem. An appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Mar 8, 2013 6:59 AM in response to Jaquilby webweasel,I had this problem too. I got the app store back by using 'reset all settings'. This will wipe your wi-fi settings, wallpaper etc, etc. but will retain all your apps and associated data. Go to:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
