Proper RAM Voltage in New MacBookPro (1.35 vs. 1.5)

The new 15" MacBookPro i7 2.6 GHz non-retina display has two 4GB RAM strips DDR3 1600MHz. Want to upgrade to the maximum, 16GB.

A RAM manufacturer has offered two 8 GB DDR3 1600 MHz strips, but asks if I want 1.35 volt or 1.5 volt strips.

Anyone know which voltage is preferred ?

for the newer Macbooks 2012 - 1.35v DDR3L is suggested....

you can however, install standard 1.5v.

since it's only a .15v difference - you will have no issues......

note - once you open the back of your Macbook - you'll see that some (with 4GB installed) the modules are 1.5v.

Most RAM that does not work when plugged into a Mac is perfectly good -- but is not the correct modules for that Mac.

Buy from a Mac-centric Vendor who can tell YOU what RAM works in your Mac, "Guaranteed or your money back".

If it ever fails, they should replace the module, free.

These folks also do a good job, sometimes for less money than those other two:

Is it true that Hynix and Samsung are the "best" and Apple-certified ? Are there brand names to avoid ?

Hynix and Samsung are actually RAM manufactures that you will find installed in some RAM modules you buy out there - other RAM manufacturers are Crucial - aka Micron, Nanya, Mushkin and Elpidia Memory (now owned by Kingston)

From Hynix:

Hynix memory is used by Apple Inc. in some of their MacBook and Macbook Pro computers,

From Mushkin:

It claims to have supplied Apple Inc. and NASA.[

I personally use Crucial and Patriot - Mac Series RAM.

As long as you don't use no name brand RAM - you should be fine.

Good luck
