Q: How to stop CIJScannerRegister to connect online?

Hi

I find out that my mac keeps trying to connect online with CIJScannerRegister.

Little Snitch application didn't propose me to setup a rule to stop the behavior of CIJScannerRegister.

What is it exactly? I found that it is a Canon printer related app(?)

and more important can I stop this non ending online behavior?

I hate to hear the fan of the Mac running nonstop from on, till off.

How to do stop CIJScannerRegister?

Please explain me step by step if possible,

specially if I have to use Terminal or so.

I'd rather use the coding way, but

if you got as well a solution with some rule from Little Snitch, pls let me know too.

Thank you for your help

Dear all, Dear Apple community thank you in advance.

Regards

oli.

In System Preferences > Users & Groups, use the system password to unlock this preference, then select the Login Items tab. Is CIJScannerRegister listed in the login items window. You can stop it by removing it. Click the lock icon again to secure this preference. Reboot.

    If not above, then:

Check the following locations for the CIJScannerRegister name string ending in .plist. You can use the Finder window. If you do find it, drag it to the Trash.

    /Users/your-directory/Library/LaunchAgents

    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons

    /Library/LaunchDaemons

    /Library/StartupItems

This is an old file and is used for network connections to an older model of Canon All In One device. It is not trying to connect online, simply find a Canon device on your local network.

The file is located in Library/Image Capture/Support/LegacyDeviceDiscoveryHelpers. If you don't have the Canon device any longer or if you don't scan from it via the network then you could trash this file. If you still have the device and need to scan via the network then you could add the program and its path to whatever Little Snitch requires. I don't use Little Snitch so I don't know what is required.

FYI - In the past when users enabled the built-in OS X firewall they would get a prompt that the CIJScanner app was being accessed and asked if they wanted to add it to their exceptions lists.

I have the same problem and I can't trash CIJScannerRegister because it's always running. How can I quit CIJScannerRegister?

I can't find CJScanner... anywhere on my computer... I've looked in all the places you suggested, and in the place from the following post.

Where could it be coming from?

    Thanks, in advance.

go the terminal ( i think u need to be a root user to kill )

    type

    # ps -ef  | grep -i CIJScannerRegister

the 2nd number is the process id

    for eg in my case

    =================

    # ps -ef  | grep -i CIJScannerRegister

    501  1635   138   0  Sat07PM ??         0:52.64 /Library/Image Capture/Support/LegacyDeviceDiscoveryHelpers/CI

    # kill -9 1635

    =================

then you should be able to delete the app ..

Could this "cijscannerregister"  be needed by the iPad's Printopia?

Can I disable cijscannerregister and will Printopia stil work?

Actually, I was able to stop the process in Activity Monitor.  Then the file deleted nicely.

I kill the process and deleted CIJScannerRegiste.app in the LegacyDeviceDiscoveryHelpers folder

    BUT!!!!!!!!!!

IT WILL COME BACK everytime I do an app update check, it is in the Canon 2.11 update.

everytime, it comes back.  and starts up like clock work and eats memory and resourse.

    anyone?

Killing it in Activity Monitor seems to work... though it comes back if I later launch LightRoom 4...

There is no way to kill it. It comes from the Canon printer drivrers.

    PAHU --

    Brilliant!

I put that darn thing on my iMac for 3 days years ago to test it for my Dad.  Here, years later, it's still trying to register!  AND messing up my iChat!

    Thank you!!!!
