Go to User Library Preferences and move ‘com.apple.dashboard.plist’ to the trash, then restart your iMac.

Hello and thank you for your response.

I have the same problem as foodbytes2 here.

Whenever I press enter in dictionary, it "tries" to drop down and give me a definition, but there seems to be a glitch.

I tried deleting "com.apple.dashboard.plist," but that just erased all my dashboard preferences, without fixing this problem.

I am using a late 2009 Macbook Pro running 10.8.2. My best guess right now is that this is due to the latest OS updates creating a glitch not specific to any one computer, but to many people. Since few people use the dashboard dictionary though, it may have gone unnoticed...

I remain open to any suggestion, since I do like the convenience of the dashboard dicitonary. All in all, I look forward to using this tool again.

Thank you and regards.

It looks like if you hover over the top part of the widget, an icon appears (sort of a horizontal line with an arrow coming out of the top and the bottom, making a cross shape). It seems like your are going to "stretch" the widget with this new cursor. Dictionary must be in it's glitched expanded mode (i.e., you've typed in a word to look up and pressed the enter button, and the dictionary widget attempted to expand) for this to work. When cursor changes to the cross hair/arrows, just click with the mouse, and drag up and down rapidly, to "shake" the widget out of it's glitched state.
