MacBook Pro Retina 15" Paint Already Chipping.

This is my first MacBook and I am surprised there are already chips on the paint, considering what I paid and the fact it is only a couple months old. I pretty much keep it in the same place and don't manhandle it and am not using it all the time since I have a different machine for work. The black paint is chipping off the "A" key and I noticed a chip on the bottom of the case. I took it to the Apple store today and had to make an appointment with a technician, but they told me that while they will replace the key, the chip on the case isn't something they will resolve since the warranty only covers software. Not sure why the key then qualifies since it is not software.

Anyhow, I paid over $2K for this thing and am disappointed that 1. It is already chipping when there has not been any significant wear in the two months I have had it, and 2. They seem to not really seem to want to help resolve a quality defect for such a new machine. Isn't Apple supposed to be all about their superior hardware quality? At least that is what they like to claim.

Can anyone here advise me on whether they have had to deal with this and if I could get a better resolution if I demand it? The guy at the store told me I should talk to the technician/genius/whatever about the chipping case, too, although they probably won't replace it. I just find that unacceptable for such a new machine, but I want to see if anyone here was able to get results w/o having to start yelling like an angry person and making a scene in the store. I would rather not have to do that!

That will get you nowhere. I have worked in customer service for years and those are the people that you don't want to help because they are being obnxious. Always keep a cool head and that will get you farther then screaming and raising a scene.

Yeah, I was just joking with the ranting and raving part. I worked retail in college and remembered what it was like to deal with jerks. I am always super nice and respectful of people in the customer service industry.

But, seriously, has anyone ever gotten them to replace any chipping parts? I just think that it would be the right thing for them to do since the machine is so new. I just got the feeling today that they aren't going to want to help me and didn't care that my machine was new.

Sorry I didn't read your whole first post, only the paint part and not the location.

This is the first time In have ever heard of any part of a MBP, any model, having any paint on it. Are you sure it is chipped and not some type of substance?

As you have found out the Geniuses at the G Bar are not really Geniuses. When you take it back in at your Appointment time ask to speak to the manager.
