How to reinstall only Mail on Mountain Lion
Mail freezes and is unable to quit. Only force quit works. Unable to use Mail. How can I reinstall Mail only?

Could be a corrupt preference file. Quite Mail.
Finder>Go>Go to Folder: copy and paste
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Delete the plist.
Restart Mail
Thanks for the reply. I tried it and didn't work. Tried openning a new user and mail was freezed also.

Hold down the option key while choosing Library from the Go menu in the Finder. In the window that appears, find the Mail folder and move it to the desktop. Then look in the Preferences folder and move the com.apple.mail.plist file to the desktop. Now try opening Mail and set up all your accounts again from scratch. If that works, you can import any messages that you are missing from the mailboxes found in the old Mail folder on your desktop.
If that doesn't fix it, hold down command-R to enter recovery mode. Repair the hard drive with Disk Utility, then reinstall the system.

There was no plist file for mail in my preferences file, but I was able to move the mail folder to my desktop. Mail then opened with no issue, and loaded my old emails back into the new account. Thanks.
When discussing this problem, I looked for the file:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
And found I had the file:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist.locked
I deleted this file, and I could send replies again.
Awesome! That's a lot better than "reinstall Mountain Lion from scratch."
I did the same as Cbara and am able to startup Mail again. But can I move the Mail folder back to library folder again without having the same problems again?
hpr3, great solve thanks buddy. Seems to be working so just need to drag in the old mailboxes from the SL back I have from Time Machine.
Fabulous! Thank you!
